With many Americans vowing to move out of the United States following Donald Trump getting elected to a second term, a cruise company might have the answer.
Villa Vie Residences launched its “Tour La Vie” program, which allows travellers to sail around the world for up to four years, with visits to more than 425 ports in 140 countries, according to a press release.
There are four packages available, with prices starting at about $40,000 US per person — the one-year “Escape from Reality”; two-year “Mid-Term Selection”; and three-year “Everywhere but Home” deal.
The four-year package — dubbed “Skip Forward” — costs $159,999 US per person for a double room or $255,999 US for a single-occupancy cabin.
“If you’re looking for an escape, there is no better place than on a ship, right, where you can wake up every day to a new backyard and get everything you need taken care of, whether that’s food or laundry or getting around the world,” Mikael Petterson, the company’s founder and CEO, told the Associated Press.
The Villa Vie Odyssey will spend a month in the Caribbean before embarking on a four-month journey in South America featuring two Panama Canal transits, two World Wonders, the Chilean Fjords, an Antarctic sail-by, Carnival in Rio and an eight-day endeavour deep into the Amazon River, the news release stated.
While the campaign was launched two days after Nov. 5, Petterson noted that the voyage was in the works long before Election Day.
“It’s not really a political campaign at all. It’s just the timing is with the election, and it just happened that Trump won,” he told the AP.
“There’s more Democrats that are unhappy about living in the U.S. now than Republicans.”
Petterson noted that Villa Vie Residences has already had a “huge uptick” in interest after the cruise was announced.
“Quite frankly, we don’t have a political view one way or the other,” he added.
“We just wanted to give people who feel threatened to have a way to get out.”
